I apologize in advance to my registered users, who will have to re-register. :-( But please, leave a comment and let me know what you think of my new site!
That said: what's this? Playing with websites? It must be summer!
Okay, so it's not quite summer. Next week I have to do the write-on competition for the law review, and I still need to turn in one last paper. But yes, when I have time, I like to update my site.
One of the things I've been thinking about lately is the disconnect between my static content and my blog. I spent a long time figuring out CSS and makes a website, but (as I explained long ago) banging out HTML every time you want to update your "blog" gets a bit cumbersome. I used WordPress for quite some time, and it is quite good for blogging alone. But no matter how I tried to make it handle my "static content" (essays, short fiction, and the like) it just fell short.
So: CMS. A "Content Management System" is a bit more robust than a mere blog, and ostensibly allows for static and dynamic content to peacefully coexist under the same interface. For the last two days I've been playing with Joomla, GeekLog, Serendipity, PostNuke, Drupal... none of them are as easy as WordPress, or as easily customized in terms of appearance, but I think (after much hair-pulling) that Drupal is going to do what I want it to. I still need to work on the template and get some graphics up, but it seems to handle both static and dynamic content pretty well.
Here's hoping...!
