The Mouse Buys Marvel

Three words: Spider-man: The Musical.

Or is that four words?

Anyway, Time Warner has owned DC for a while and now Disney owns Marvel. From a fan's point-of-view, DC's acquisition has been a mixed bag. Writers don't seem entirely free to "play" with Batman or Superman etc., to reinvent them in any way, presumably because it might threaten the "integrity" (read: marketability) of the IP. On the other hand, I love the stuff that Vertigo puts out, so I can't exactly assert that Time Warner is an enemy of innovation or what have you.

The acquisition is obviously a great move on Disney's part. How it pans out for Marvel, I guess I'm cautiously optimistic. Frankly, Marvel has been sliding a bit... the movies have been spectacular, but Ultimatum was kind of a disaster, and nothing has happened in the 616 to really interest me for quite a while now. So maybe a shake-up will do Marvel some good? Or maybe I've just gone soft on Disney since they paid off my student loans? d^_~b

Anyhow, I wanted to take this opportunity to categorically deny the truth of certain rumors floating around that I personally brokered this deal between Marvel and Disney just so that Spider-man could make a cameo appearance in the Wings movie. Assertions that a Marvel/Wings movie crossover is pending are patently false.

So far.

But don't think for one second I won't be joking about it for weeks.
